MC2 Post 1879 And Things -- like computer chips -- Keep Getting Smaller

Despite Moore's Law that says eventually

we will hit a wall  and stop getting smaller

With Current Silicon Technology...

But what about Carbon, Nanotubes and

Quantum Computers?

IBM Announces $3 Billion Research Initiative

Scientists and engineers to push limits of silicon technology to 7 nanometers and below and create post-silicon future

Semiconductors show promise to scale from today's 22 nanometers down to 14 and then 10 nanometers in the next several years.  However, scaling to 7 nanometers and perhaps below, by the end of the decade will require significant investment and innovation in semiconductor architectures.

IBM) today announced it is investing $3 billion over the next 5 years in two broad research and early stage development programs to push the limits of chip technology needed to meet the emerging demands of cloud computing and Big Data systems. These investments will push IBM's semiconductor innovations from today's breakthroughs into the advanced technology leadership required for the future.

9 in 10 smartphones sold in Spain are Android

phones, more than in China

It’s statistics time ladies and gentlemen,
courtesy of data collected by Kantar Worldpanel.

Today we are taking a look at the global market share of smartphones sales in the three months leading into May 2014, and once again it is good news for our

operating system of choice.

Android continues its dominance in the vast majority of major world markets, securing, 73, 62, and 83 percent of the market share in the five largest EU nations, the US, and China respectively. Japan is the only region to defy

this trend with 52 percent of sales going to Apple, in contract to the 47 percent share of the market captured by Android.

Windows and Blackberry continue their streak of miserable sales across the globe, although some sections of Europe seem to have a soft spot for Microsoft’s operating system, which we will look at in a minute.
