MC2 Post 1605 Symbol Sense -- Making Sense of Symbols in Mathematics



Some math puzzles are easy, and some Not so muchWhy?

I came across this pdf on my Nexus 7 tablet last night and asked:  "Why are mathematic equations so "hard" to decipher?

If I only knew what those symbols meant, I could get a better understanding of this equation, and hopefully, other equations like it.
 

That's me, always look First for an easy answer. 

Well, that didn't work.

I put that aside and picked up my copy of  H. G. Wells: 
"The Outline of History" volume one.

 



I've been reading (listening audible book) Snow Crash by  Neal Stephenson, where he dips into (among a lot of other things) into 
Sumerian myth and the Tower of Babel story 
in the bible.  So I went looking to see 
what Wells had to say about Sumerians.

Instead, I landed on Well's chapter XII: The Languages of Mankind, and especially the part about why the Chinese Language is so basically different. 



So symbolic-like.  My reading.

 
Maybe I needed a better understanding of Symbols, beyond mathematics.

Well let me see what I can find out about mathematical symbols.



Like the saying goes:  Seek and you shall find.

and how to fix it by looking at symbols differently.
